VIDEO: 2012 Corvette ZR1 Laps the 'Ring 6-Sec Faster than Previous Model, Beats GT-R by 5-Sec!

And the war on who has the fastest car on Germany’s famed Nurburgring racetrack continues. General Motors wasted no time after the release of its refined for the 2012 model year Corvette ZR1 to take its flagship sports car to the Nurburgring racetrack and try it out.

The 638-horsepower ZR-1 fitted with the optional Michelin PilotSport Cup Zero Pressure tires recorded a lap time of 7:19.63, improving the previous Corvette-best recorded time in 2008 by more than six seconds (7:26.40) and beating the 2012MY Nissan GT-R’s most recent run -allegedly in less than ideal conditions though- by close to five-seconds (7:24.22).

The Renault Group is upping the ante for Dacia with its decision to enter the Romanian brand’s Duster crossover in the famous Pikes Peak international hill climb that will take place this year on June 26 in Colorado, USA. Nissan Offers Three Years of Free Service for 2011MY GT-R in the UK

Pit stops for new owners of the 2011 GT-R in the United Kingdom will become a far more enjoyable chore as Nissan is offering a three-year servicing plan, along with three years RAC cover. The Japanese automaker said the free service plan is offered to those purchasing a 2011MY GT-R through Nissan’s own personal contract plan (PCP) known as Preferences. Buyers that opt to finance their car in any other way as well as current owners of the 2011MY GT-R, are offered the option to purchase the servicing plan for £499 (equal to US$899 or €567). Renault’s Dacia Duster “No Limit” Racer gets 850HP V6 Sourced from the Nissan GT-R!

Following an early reveal on racing driver Jean-Philippe Dayraut's website, Renault today released official photos of its PikesPeak contender, the 850HP Dacia Duster “No Limit”. The name comes from the “Unlimited” class of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, which imposes no restrictions on the size or power output of the engine, maximum power or torque. In addition, there are no restrictions concerning the transmission or the aerodynamic characteristics. Looking at the size of the Duster's rear wing, it is obvious the car competes in the “Unlimited” class.

The one-off prototype was built by Tork Engineering (which handled the design, production, assembly and development) and Sodemo (engine), in association with Renault Sport Technologies, which supplied certain components.

Inspired by a scene from the upcoming Fast Five film or as some fans refer to it, Fast and Furious 5, in which the protagonists try out different cars to find the right one for a risky heist, the folks over from Autotopia set out to test numerous tuned cars on a race track to see which one is best suited for the task.

The cars they chose for the test include the AE Performance Nissan 370Z used in the movie Fast Five; Autotopias’ Ford Cargo Van; DC Motors Mercedes Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series; Gintani BMW X5M; Heintz Ford Mustang GT 5.0; MFEST E60 BMW M5; OE Tuning Mercedes Benz C63 AMG; Airtiger Express Nissan GTR R35; Tesla Motors Roadster Sport and finally, the Team Wu Dodge Charger Police Car.

The concept of turning SUVs into pavement-pounding, drag-racing, supercar-shredding monster rods never ceases to amaze me, and by that I mean my jaw is on the floor and I'm completely boggled. I love me some automobiles (and vehicular transportation in general), but there's something about a nigh-three ton box on wheels and oodles of GO that seems...weird.

However, if monster rods - or high performance in general - are your cup of Starbucks soy latte, then Hennessey has got you covered (as if you didn't know that already, what with their cray-cray 1,000+ horsepower Vipers from way back when). Below, for your viewing pleasure, is video of a 2011 Cadillac Escalade drag racing a 2011 R35 GT-R and beating it.

Back in 2009, Nissan GT-R owners had to face an odd dilemma: even though the car came with a launch control system, using it meant voiding the warranty. In the ensuing controversy, the Japanese maker simply dropped it for the 2010 model year, stating that it doesn’t want to deal with the “warranty nightmare” anymore.

However, the launch control is back on the 2012 GT-R’s equipment list in a revised form that allows customers to use it four times in a row, before shutting off in order to protect the transmission. Just like the original, the new system (LC4) launches from 4,000 rpm, but it’s better at minimizing wheel spin, making the latest and more powerful (+45HP) iteration of the Japanese sports car a lot faster compared to the 2010MY GT-R in a straight line race. Nissan Announces Nine Models for Tokyo Auto Salon Including Juke Sporty and Leaf Aero Concept

At the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon 2011 with NAPAC (Japan Car Parts and Aftermarket Promotion Association), to be held from January 14 to 16, Nissan, together with Autech Japan and its in-house NISMO performance division, will premiere a total of nine vehicles.

Highlights will include the zero-emission LEAF Aero Style Concept equipped with a futuristic looking bodykit and matching alloy wheel designs, and a special version of the Juke fitted with exterior accessories designed for the European and North American market models.

Autech Japan will showcase three vehicles, including the Elgrand Rider Premium Concept, which is the JDM version of the N.A. Quest minivan, the customized Serena Rider and the March-Based Bolero (Micra for those outside Japan).

Finally, NISMO will present its new production race car, the GT-R RC, alongside the tuned 355HP Fairlady Z (370Z) and the GT-R racecar that competed in the 2010 SUPER GT series.

Nissan Announces 2012 GT-R's 0-100km/h Sprint Time, Half a Second Faster than 2011MY

When we reported on the 2012MY Nissan GT-R, we were wondering how the added power would affect the Japanese sports car's acceleration times. Well, the wait is over as Nissan announced today that the facelifted GT-R with the tweaked 530HP twin-turbocharged V6 completes the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in just 3.0 seconds, or a whopping 0.5 seconds faster than the 485 hp version.

Measurements were carried out at the Sendai Race Way on November 12th-13th, in Sunny/Cloudy weather during the media test event. Temperature ranged between 15-19 degrees Celsius (59-66.2 F).

The company used a standard specification model – including tires and wheels –, without any optional parts. The car was set to “R” mode for the suspension and VDC-R (Vehicle Dynamic Control) system.

Given that few (if any) series-production sports cars priced under the $100k mark (in the U.S.) achieve these kind of numbers, the GT-R definitely returns an incredible bang for your buck.

LA Show Debut for 2012 U.S.-Spec Nissan GT-R, New “Black Edition” Added to Range

Boasting more power, subtle interior and exterior styling tweaks as well as chassis updates and a new "Black Edition" model, the U.S.-spec 2012 Nissan GT-R made its North American debut today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

As far as street-cred goes, few cars can equal the Nissan GT-R. So, it's only normal that every new version finds the fans holding their breath, wondering what are those crazy Japanese going to do next. Add more power, that's what.

The 2012 U.S.-spec model squeezes 530 ponies out of the 3.8-liter twin turbo V6, also known as the VR38DETT, and 488 lb-ft (662 Nm) of asphalt shredding torque – all without any heavy modifications. Engineers fiddled a bit with the boost pressure, gave the valve timing a mild makeover and optimized the air mixture ratio. That sounds like half of a Japanese workday. OK, one full day, if we acknowledge the improved aerodynamics as well.

The front fascia was modestly refreshed and now features double rectifier fins, which optimize the airflow around the supercar's nose. The air intakes are bigger, too, and more efficient in cooling the engine and the front brakes.

We don't know yet how these changes are going to affect performance, 'cause Nissan is all too secretive about official figures, but you really don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize that this car will be very, very fast, given its history.

Visually , the new LED running lights deserve a mention, accompanied by the plated inner headlight panels, which according to Nissan, enhance the GT-R's presence. In total, six exterior colors are available, including two brand-spanking new: the Deep Blue Pearl and Jet Black.

Inside we find minor appointments in the form of new carbon fiber trim and updated materials.

The 10-spoke 20-inch RAYS alloys represent the finishing touch, featuring a near black finish and some innovative solutions. For instance, the knurling inside the wheels was modified to prevent the tires from slipping around them under heavy acceleration or braking.

As for the "Black Edition", it features some unique treats such as the red-trimmed Recaro seats, a dark headliner plus a different set of new RAYS rims, with a 6-spoke design.

When sales will begin early next year, the starting MSRPs will be $89,950 for the Premium and $95,100 for the Black Edition.
